tbh, if you want to be an “ally” with what you wear, start wearing pins, buttons, patches, and clothing that says “MAKE RACISTS AFRAID AGAIN.” seriously. “NO ONE IS ILLEGAL.” even wear the damn Pride flag, as fraught a symbol as it is. or what about “FUCK TRUMP”??? as empty a statement as that is, at least it’s better than the hollow safety pin.
the safety pin was an idea so completely devoid of backbone that it was immediately co-opted by literal white supremacists. if your allyship in public involves an easily-missed marker with no actual symbolic worth, then it’s not doing anything.
listen: don’t feel bad about having worn the safety pin, and don’t feel bad about reblogging it (though you should discontinue its use). just…think about the impact! wearing something as an ally is one of the laziest forms of protest and support, so if you’re gonna do it, go big or go home.

Obama: once out of office, I’m gonna stop being polite and start getting real
Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin has a great new interview with President Obama in Vanity Fair. In the wide-ranging interview, they discuss Abraham Lincoln, Obama’s biggest regrets from his time in office, and how a visit to the pyramids reminded Obama that cable news doesn’t really matter.
But perhaps the most intriguing bit was when, in a brief discussion of Obama’s plans for his post-presidency, Obama hinted that he planned to start speaking out more like an activist than a president.
There are “things,” he told Goodwin, “that in some ways I suspect I’m able to do better out of this office.” He elaborated that because of the “institutional constraints” of the presidency, “there are things I cannot say.”
He went on to essentially say he wanted to use his post-presidential bully pulpit more like an activist than a venerable elder statesman. “There are institutional obligations I have to carry out that are important for a president of the United States to carry out, but may not always align with what I think would move the ball down the field on the issues that I care most deeply about,” he said.
And while vague, this is an intriguing hint that Obama is thinking about being a very different ex-president than we’ve been used to.
i mean we havent had a good assassination in over 50 years i think we’re overdue for one.
If ur arabic ur great

If ur arabic and muslim and queer ur great
I know it seems hard to believe but you’re not bad you’re not awfulHey if you’re not arabic can you reblog this? I hardly ever see any positivity towards us and I just wanna spread love to my Arab siblings
“Don’t fight hate with hate” is an example of subtle gaslighting, where our legitimate hurt & anger at the injustices we suffer is being equated to the bigotry & abuse of our oppressors.
Being angry doesn’t mean you are being hateful, it means you love yourself enough to get upset at your own mistreatment.
DO NOT DO IT BC IT’S BAD AND YOU WILL REGRET EVERYTHING
so it looks like the safety pin thing has been co-opted by white supremacists. we need other, better ways to show solidarity anyway. wear an “i’ll go with you” pin, if you want that badly to wear a pin, or better yet, stand up for marginalized folks when you see them being harassed (online and irl). join an organization, volunteer your time, donate money, join a protest, if you’re able. wear a “black lives matter” or a “not my president” t shirt. there are so many ways to show solidarity and we need to get started now.
These people are truly evil

It’s been almost 17 years and I still don’t know why Padme Amidala develops a crush on 11 year old Anakin Skywalker when she’s been traveling with a young and hot Ewan McGregor
